"The Untold History of Crimean Tatars" Documentary Screened for Diplomatic Corps in Kyiv

15 May 2025, Kyiv — PR Army, in collaboration with Ukraїner, presented the documentary The Untold History of Crimean Tatars to members of the diplomatic corps in Kyiv, as part of a commemoration event marking 81 years since the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars by the Soviet regime. The screening was hosted by the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Ambassadors from countries including Canada and Iraq, alongside Crimean Tatar leaders, muftis, and civil society representatives, came together to reflect on the historical and ongoing repression of the Crimean Tatar people — from the 1944 deportation to the present-day Russian occupation of Crimea.

“Crimea is like the nerve of human civilization — a nerve that signals danger not only for the Crimean Tatar people, but for the whole world. Our strength to endure comes not only from the fact that our parents never gave up, but also from the support of many countries and peoples. Crimea is Crimean Tatar land and an integral part of the Ukrainian state,” stressed Refat Chubarov.

‍

Sheikh Murat Suleimanov, Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Umma,” highlighted the vital role of cultural, educational, and religious development in preserving the identity of the Crimean Tatar people, stressing that raising awareness of their history is essential to protecting the future of the nation.

‍

PR Army's Khrystyna Shkudor and Anastasiia Marushevska addressed the audience, stressing the importance of sustained international awareness of Russia’s long-standing colonial violence against both Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, and the urgent need to strengthen the Crimean Tatar voice globally.
